2025 Salmon Naturalists

Thank you for your interest in volunteering as a Salmon Naturalist this year! Please sign up for the Orientation Training and the On-River Training. You can then sign up for volunteer shifts during our Salmon Expedition Field Trip season. We ask that you sign up for a minimum of 3 field trips. 

The Orientation Training is held at the SYRCL office from 5pm to 6:30pm on Sept. 23, 2025 and will cover the following: 

• Overview of Salmon Expeditions
• The role of the Salmon Naturalist
• Requirements of the Salmon Naturalist
• The curriculum and training materials
• How to sign up for volunteer shifts
• Questions

The On-River Training is held in Smartsville on the lower Yuba River from 9am to 3pm on Sept. 25, 2025 and will cover the following:

• Run through of the entire field trip
• Opportunities to practice teaching
• Questions 

Salmon Expedition Field Trip Sign Ups: Trips run Monday through Friday, Sept. 29 to Nov. 20 

• Sign up for a minimum of 3 shifts
• Arrive at Parks Bar at 8:30am
• Assist with field trip and facilitate activities 
• Assist with before and after field trip logistics
